Introducing… SuperRed donation! Previously known as Double Red Blood Cell (DRBC) donation, this new name really captures the spirit of our donors who give a red cell donation through an apheresis process. When you donate a SuperRed, not only are you providing double the red blood cells and receiving your platelets and plasma back through an automated blood collection – you’re making an incredible impact in the lives of local patients and making the best possible use of your donation time.
HOW IT WORKS
During a SuperRed donation, an automated blood cell collection machine, called an ALYX machine, is used to draw whole blood. Your red blood cells are separated via centrifuge and retained, and the remaining blood components are returned back to you at the same time. This donation safely removes twice as many red cells than traditional whole blood, making you a SuperRed donor!
You can make this type of donation up to three times per year (every 128 days), and each donation is equivalent to two whole blood donations in terms of the impact for local patients. You’ll save trips to the donation chair, and will help ensure a ready supply of red cells for anyone who needs them.
