STANFORD, Calif. — The Sharks Foundation, Stanford Blood Center and Be The Match RegistrySM will team up to host a blood drive and bone marrow registration event Jan. 23 at HP Pavilion in San Jose.
“The Sharks drive is a way to bring fun, excitement and awareness to a life-saving community cause,” said Sharks foundation manager Laura Johnston. The foundation is the charitable organization for the Sharks, San Jose’s professional hockey team.
Any fan who attempts to donate blood or who registers for the bone marrow registry will be able to watch the morning practice for the San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres, who will play later that evening at 7:30 p.m. Every fan who attempts to donate blood will also be entered for a chance to win a Zamboni ride and four tickets to a future Sharks home game. Appointments for the drive are limited. Only donors with appointments will be allowed to attend the blood drive and watch the morning practice.
The Stanford Blood Center anticipates that the Sharks drive will break the center’s current record for the most units donated at a blood drive, and expects more than 400 donors to attend.
