To Give Good, Lend a Hand (Or Your Arm)
Even if you’re not handy, you can still help a family in need build a home this holiday season … all from the comfort of your SBC donation chair.
Every holiday season, Stanford Blood Center (SBC) looks forward to teaming up with another great non-profit to help save and brighten lives and strengthen the community. For this year’s Give Good campaign, SBC is excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley.
Blood donors who take time out of the busy holiday season to donate between Monday, December 21, 2015 and Sunday, January 10, 2016, will have a unique opportunity to double their impact: For each blood donor who visits, SBC will make a donation towards materials needed to help build a San Jose home. Your blood donation will help support patients and their families, while supporting housing for a San Jose family.
Blood donors at our centers (in Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and Mountain View) or at our special mobile drive on January 6, 2016 can all participate. Donors to our centers will also have a chance to sign construction boards that will be built in to a family’s house. Donors during this time will receive a unique thank you gift: a handy tape measure with level and note pad. Hint: It would fit nicely in a stocking!
Although the Silicon Valley is home to some of the country’s most beautiful and expensive homes, for too many in the area the dream of owning a modest home feels out of reach, but Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley is helping to change that. Habitat for Humanity revitalizes neighborhoods, builds affordable and sustainable housing solutions, and empowers families through successful homeownership. Since 1986, they have partnered with volunteers, the community, and qualified families with limited incomes to strengthen communities in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara Counties. Habitat for Humanity has a vision—a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Learn more at habitatebsv.org.
It’s just the kind of organization SBC had in mind for the Give Good campaign, created to support the needs of patients during the critical winter holiday season. It’s always challenging to ensure we have enough donors, with crowded holiday schedules and vacations. That’s why each winter, we partner with a different community organization to double the impact of each blood donation. It’s the ultimate win-win: Patients and their families will benefit from blood donations, and others in our community that need support will get help, too.
