Recognizing Blood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize those affected by leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other cancers of the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. It is also an opportunity to honor patients, survivors, families, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers.
This observance has a close connection to SBC’s mission. Blood cancers and treatments such as chemotherapy can lower blood cell and platelet counts, leaving many patients dependent on transfusions during their care. At SBC, patients undergoing cancer treatment are the primary users of platelets, underscoring the important role blood and platelet donors play in supporting these patients. If you work directly with donors, please take a moment to share how vital their donations are to patients with blood cancer.
SBC is proud to partner with Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization that advances blood cancer research, provides free patient resources and support, and advocates for accessible care. Through SBC’s Give Good program, donors can contribute their Donor Loyalty points to Blood Cancer United, with the points converted into a financial gift at the end of the fiscal year.
