Honoring Anthony Lichauco’s Legacy
By Samm Baker, Communications Strategist
Stanford Blood Center’s own Melissa Lichauco has been given an extraordinary opportunity to continue her late husband Anthony’s legacy by participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Visionaries of the Year campaign. This campaign is not only about fundraising; it’s about bringing hope to families fighting blood cancers and fueling the research necessary to one day find a cure.
In February 2021, Anthony was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Despite facing numerous challenges, including chemotherapy, remission, and a bone marrow transplant, his fight remained filled with love and hope. Throughout his journey, he continued to uplift others, offering support and encouragement, even during his hardest moments.
Anthony passed away on September 14, 2023, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him. His legacy of kindness and selflessness lives on through the love he shared, always making others feel seen and never alone.
Through the campaign, Melissa is raising funds for LLS, which has been at the forefront of blood cancer research for decades. The funds raised will support critical research, patient care, and advocacy. LLS has invested $1.8 billion in groundbreaking research, contributing to over 70% of FDA-approved treatments for blood cancers and other diseases. Melissa and her team have set a goal of raising $49,999 between March 28 and June 7, with every dollar going toward making a difference for future generations.
Melissa’s mission is not only to honor Anthony’s spirit but to support every person still fighting blood cancer. Donations can be made by scanning the QR code below or through her direct fundraising link.
This campaign is a chance for everyone to contribute to a cause that impacts so many lives. It’s a reminder to never stop fighting, just as Anthony did, and to always give with a heart full of love.
