A Decade of Dominance — Stanford Beats Cal in the 12th Annual “Rivals for Life” Blood Drive
Stanford football wasn’t the only winner this week! Every November, in advance of the “Big Game” (Stanford vs. Cal football), the universities’ respective blood centers have a competition of their own: the “Rivals for Life” blood drive. Whoever collects the most units of blood is declared the winner.
We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, November 15, Stanford took home the victory for the tenth year in a row! The drive has become so popular with donors that Stanford Blood Center (SBC) set up in two locations on Stanford campus: the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation and the Arrillaga Outdoor Education and Recreation Center. Hundreds of students, faculty, and community members showed up to support Stanford University and Stanford Blood Center. Because of their generosity, we were able to collect 306 units of blood to Cal’s 222 — a decisive victory!
Rivals for Life is truly a collaborative effort between our community and our own SBC team. Our donors never disappoint in their enthusiasm for Rivals, making it one of our biggest drives of the year. And our own team SBC members shift into high gear to ensure that donors are accommodated quickly, without sacrificing that personal touch at every step of the process.
And while a victory over Cal is always sweet, the real winners are the local patients that this drive helped. Thank you to everyone whose dedication and generosity allowed us to provide patients with the blood products they need — you are all life savers!
