This January, donating blood will earn you good karma! January 8 – 27, Stanford Blood Center is partnering with Good Karma Bikes (GKB) for our fifth annual Give Good campaign. Each year during our critical winter season (when blood donations are lower due to travel and cold/flu season), SBC partners with a local nonprofit to spread awareness about blood donation while supporting a fellow community organization and a good cause. Because of the support our donors and the community, Give Good has brought in 8,518 donors resulting in donations of $17,340 to our partners over the past four years!

We hope to make this year our most successful yet; we are excited to announce that our 2018 partner is San Jose’s Good Karma Bikes! January 8 – 27, for every person who presents to donate, we will make a financial contribution to Good Karma Bikes (GKB) to help support the amazing work they do in the community. Learn more about Good Karma Bikes here. Additionally, for every 15 donors that come in during the campaign, GKB will donate a bicycle to a child living in foster care or a single-parent shelter. Their goal is to give away 100 bikes, so please make your appointment to support this wonderful cause! You can make an appointment to donate at sbcdonor.org.

To close out the campaign, we’ve organized a mobile drive to be held at Good Karma Bikes on January 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The drive will take place at Good Karma’s shop at 460 Lincoln Ave. #25, San Jose, CA 95126. Good Karma partners Chromatic Coffee and Umpqua Bank will be in attendance with some free treats: Chromatic Coffee will be handing out coffee, and Umpqua Bank will be handing out ice cream! You can schedule an appointment for the drive at http://bit.ly/GiveGoodGoodKarma.

We will also be hosting a Facebook Live event on January 5 at 11:30 a.m., where GKB founder Jim Gardner will take us on a tour of their site and tell us a bit more about Good Karma and Give Good. We encourage viewers to ask questions via the comments section; we will answer as many as possible during the broadcast. To watch the broadcast, simply go to our Facebook page (facebook.com/stanfordbloodcenter) at 11:30 a.m. on January 5!

We hope you are as excited about this year’s Give Good as we are! You can learn more about the Give Good campaign and our partner, Good Karma Bikes, at stanfordbloodcenter.org/givegood. Thank you for helping us support local kids in need while sharing the importance of blood donation!
